So, you find out that you are pregnant, and you are completely ecstatic that you are going to have a bundle of joy coming into your life and you can finally complete your family. But now you must make sure that your cat does not get jealous when you get home from the hospital. Your cat has always been the center of attention and now you are bringing home a new life, and they do not really know what to think. So, they can get jealous and territorial. It is almost like being home a new sibling to your oldest child, but cats do not understand how fragile is. So, by introducing them slowly it will hopefully help make sure your cat does not try and hurt the baby.
Here are some helpful hints when you are introducing your cat to your newborn.
- You should do it in a room that the cat has a few associations with
- It should be quiet.
- Do not introduce in a place where the cat usually sleeps or eat.
- Make sure that you are holding that baby in your arms and allow your cat to sniff them.
- Reward your cat or cats if they have calm behavior.
Be sure you still give your cat(s) attention so they do not feel like they are being abandoned and give them the same love you would if you did not have a baby.
