Ever wonder when you are walking down the street and you see a person dressed in different clothing, it is all dark and not normal to what you see on a daily basis, they have their make up on different, their face is more white with dark eye shadow and they are wearing headphones and you wonder to yourself what they are listening too? You instantly think that it is all grunge type music and screamo. Gothic people might be listening to punk, emo, post-hardcord, industrial/nu wave, pop, rock and roll, even country and Kpop. Gothic people are a diverse subculture and they do not really have one specific genre. But the music that goths prefer include several styles such as gothic rock, death rock, post-punk, cold wave, dark wave, and ethereal wave. But what defines gothic music? Gothic rock typically are about dark themes which is addressed through the lyrics and the music. It is a poetic sensibility of the genre led by gothic rock lyrics to literary romanticism, morbidity, existentialism, religious symbolism, and supernatural mysticism.
